Jason Lazarus
(b. 1975)
Despite grappling with leftist failure, disenchantment, and apathy during and after the Obama administration, Jason Lazarus makes work that remains resolutely hopeful. He creates a “live archive” of the present, assembling iPhone photographs, Twitter GIFs, and Occupy protest signs to propose reconsiderations of politics and protest movements. Lazarus has deep ties to Chicago: after graduating from DePaul University and Columbia College Chicago, he went on to teach at Columbia College Chicago and the School of the Art Institute and co-founded the Chicago Artist Writers collective.
